Hide API keys on a live stream or recording
PlainBlur is Chrome only. It works on web pages, not desktop apps. The page is not uploaded. This page is about a stream or a recording, not a sales demo. Back to PlainBlur.
| Fact | Detail |
|---|---|
| Price | Free is manual blur on one site. Auto-blur is off. Pro is $49, paid once, for one browser: every site plus auto-blur. Team is $99, paid once, for five browsers, with the same blurs as Pro. |
| What's included | On Pro and Team, auto-blur looks for emails, phone numbers, API keys, money amounts, and card-like numbers as the page loads. You can still click an element or drag an area. |
| What it doesn't do | It does not run in a terminal or a desktop IDE. It is a best-effort visual aid. It can miss text in images, canvases, and some iframes, and a brief flash is possible. The page is not uploaded. PlainBlur is a visual aid, not a privacy or compliance guarantee. |

Which kinds of text does auto-blur look for?
Auto-blur looks for emails, phone numbers, API keys, money amounts, and card-like numbers. Each kind can be turned off in the popup. It is pattern matching in the browser, and an unusual key format can be missed. The card check looks for 13- to 19-digit numbers that start with 5 and pass a Luhn check. Other card numbers are not matched. It does not look for names or national ID numbers.
Does it work in my terminal or IDE?
No. It works on web pages in Chrome only. A terminal app or a desktop IDE is out of reach. If the page you are sharing is a web page in Chrome, PlainBlur can blur text in that page. It does not cover another window on a full-screen share.
What should I check before going live?
Look at the page with the blurs on before you start the stream or the recording. Auto-blur is best-effort. It can miss text in images, canvases, and some iframes, and a brief flash before the blur is possible. Cover anything it skipped by clicking the element or dragging an area. The page is not uploaded.
Which plan has auto-blur?
Auto-blur is part of Pro and Team. It is off on the free plan. Pro is $49, paid once, for one browser: every site, plus auto-blur. Team is $99, paid once, for five browsers, with the same blurs as Pro. Free is manual blur on one site. There is no subscription.
