Hide emails, phones, and keys on a demo

This page is about using PlainBlur on an admin panel or a billing page before a demo. Back to PlainBlur.

What does PII mean on this page?

Here, PII means a value you do not want a viewer to read, such as an email address, a phone number, an API key, an amount, or a card-like number. PlainBlur does not decide what a policy calls sensitive, and it is not a compliance certification. You blur what you select. On Pro and Team, auto-blur also looks for those five kinds of text.

Does PlainBlur upload the admin page?

No. The blur is applied in Chrome. Page content is not uploaded. Saved blurs stay in this browser.

How do you blur one field by hand?

Open PlainBlur, choose Blur an element, and click the field. Or choose Blur an area and drag a rectangle over it. Alt+Shift+E picks an element. Alt+Shift+A drags an area. Alt+Shift+B shows or hides blurs.

A name, an address, an account id, or any other text is covered only if you click it or drag over it. Auto-blur does not look for names.

How does auto-blur work on a billing page?

Auto-blur is part of Pro and Team. It is off on the free plan. It searches the page text for emails, phone numbers, API keys, amounts, and card-like numbers, and blurs matches. The popup has a checkbox for each kind. The popup line for this is “Pro blurs patterns as the page changes.”

Matching is best effort. An unusual phone number or key format can be missed. Text that only looks like a match can be blurred. Text inside an image, a canvas, or an iframe is not read. Look at the page before you present. A short flash of the unblurred page is possible before a blur is applied.

What does free keep on the first site?

Free is $0. Manual blur is kept for the first site you blur. On another site, a manual blur lasts for that visit and is not kept. Show or hide still works. Blurs stay in this browser. There is no account.

Pro is $49, paid once, for one browser seat: manual blur on every site, plus auto-blur. Team is $99, paid once, for five browser seats, with the same blurs as Pro. There is no subscription and no team admin console. Checkout starts from the extension popup. This website does not take payment.

What should you do before the call?

Turn the blurs on, then read the screen yourself. Cover anything auto-blur skipped by clicking the element or dragging an area. Steps for a screen share are on blur a page before you share your screen.

Who do you email if a blur looks wrong?

Email [email protected]. PlainBlur is sold by Desert Herders Collective LLC (New Mexico).
