Blur text on a web page in Chrome
PlainBlur is Chrome only. It works on web pages, not desktop apps. The page is not uploaded. Back to PlainBlur.
| Fact | Detail |
|---|---|
| Price | Free is manual blur on one site. Pro is $49, paid once, for one browser: every site plus auto-blur. Team is $99, paid once, for five browsers, with the same blurs as Pro. |
| What's included | Free keeps manual blur for the first site. Pro and Team keep it for every site you allow, and add auto-blur for emails, phone numbers, API keys, money amounts, and card-like numbers. Alt+Shift+B shows or hides every blur. |
| What it doesn't do | It is a best-effort visual aid. It can miss text in images, canvases, and some iframes, and a brief flash is possible. It does not upload the page. It does not blur a desktop app. PlainBlur is a visual aid, not a privacy or compliance guarantee. |

How do I blur a single element?
Open PlainBlur, choose Blur an element, and click the text. Alt+Shift+E does the same thing. Esc cancels. The click covers that element. It does not blur a highlighted selection inside the element. Drag an area if you need a smaller patch.
How do I blur an area?
Choose Blur an area and drag a rectangle. Alt+Shift+A starts that drag. Esc cancels. The rectangle is drawn on the page, over the text you covered.
Do blurs stay after I reload?
Yes, once you let PlainBlur remember the site. Kept blurs come back after a reload if you choose Remember this site, or Remember every site. Free keeps the first site you blur. Pro and Team keep every site you allow. Until you allow that, a blur lasts for the visit. Chrome asks before a site is remembered.
Can I blur on more than one site?
Free is manual blur on one site: that first site is the one that is kept. You can blur another site for that visit, and that blur is not kept. Pro is $49, paid once, for one browser, and keeps manual blur on every site. Team is $99, paid once, for five browsers, with the same blurs as Pro. Pro and Team also add auto-blur.
Does the extension read or upload the page?
The page is not uploaded. Blurring happens in this browser. Page content is not sent to the license server or to plainblur.com. On Pro and Team, auto-blur looks at text in the page for emails, phone numbers, API keys, money amounts, and card-like numbers. That matching stays in the browser. PlainBlur is Chrome only. It works on web pages, not desktop apps. It is a best-effort visual aid that can miss text in images, canvases, and some iframes, and a brief flash before the blur is possible.
Steps for a call are on blur a page before you share your screen. For a screenshot, see blur sensitive info before a screenshot.
